In this meeting, Mrs. Trần Thị Hòa, director of CIRUM, presented a plan for CIRUM for 2017 – 2018 period. The Board members discussed this plan and come up with an agreement. The Board members also provided some suggestions for CIRUM, such as opening up more activities in the impoverished areas with exhausted resources in the provinces of Sơn La, Đăk Lăk, Lai Châu, Hà Giang; or documenting local knowledge in relation with natural resources. It is recommended to develop a network of experts that included the Board members, the National Assembly members, members of local People’s Councils and Fatherland Front in the policy advocacy activities. The Board members encouraged publishing CIRUM research and reviews to provide the targeted communities and partners. Another suggestion for CIRUM was an active strategy in human ecology education for the young generation, which is considered to be very necessary and significant.

In closing remarks, Mrs. Trần Thị Hòa reviewed the evaluation, comments and suggestions of the Board. This included the achievements of CIRUM, which takes into account  the target community’s aspirations. CIRUM’s evidence-based policy advocacy has demonstrated persuasive indicators, while the policy makers endorse and transfer CIRUM’s suggestions into their draft law and draft by-law  related to forestry policy and the rights of ethnic minority peoples. CIRUM’s effective activities at the community level has proven the strength of the evidence-based approach for state law and policy revision and advocacy.
