Converting Eucalyptus to indigenous forestry trees in the village community forest - The right direction of Ho Muoi village, Minh Son commune, Huu Lung district, Lang Son province
Posted Date: 03/10/2017
Covering bare land, bare hills and gradually replacing Eucalyptus with valuable indigenous forest trees is an appropriate choice for the Ho Muoi villagers in Minh Son Commune, Huu Lung District, Lang Province.

On September 16, 2017, the LandNet coordinators of Huu Lung district, Lang Son province cooperated with the Minh Son Communal People's Committee, the communal youth union, the local troop, and households in Ho Muoi village to plant mixed forestry seedlings of Lát Hoa (Chukrasia tabularis), Lim Xẹt (Peltophorum pterocarpum) and Acacia in order to replace the existing Eucalyptus area in the village community forest. 45 members were divided into 3 teams to clear the vegetation, dig holes and plant trees. The total area of nearly 4ha was cleared and planted with trees, of which nearly 2 ha of young Eucalyptus were cut and replaced by 2,000 new forestry seedlings.

This is an important activity for the Ho Muoi villagers because the forest land allocated to the community in 2013 for long-term use and management is very significant for stabilizing the water sources, preventing from soil erosion and supporting long-term livelihood for local villagers. The Ho Muoi villagers and the LandNet members in Huu Lung district have been nursing these seedlings since 2016 until now.

By the end of September 2017, the Huu Lung LandNet will continuously cooperate with commune authorities, youth union and Ho Muoi villagers to remove and replace Eucalyptus with Lát Hoa (Chukrasia tabularis), Lim Xẹt (Peltophorum pterocarpum) and Acacia. So, with collective strength, the community forests of Ho Muoi village will be improved and become diversified, sustainable forests of multi-layered canopy in the future.
